Yakuza Month: Movie Review – Brother

Mobflix rating 4.5 stars out of 5

For Yakuzapalooza, we bring you a fantastic movie called Brother.  Brother is written, directed, and stars Takeshi Kitano as a Japanese Yakuza (Gangster) sent to the US in exile and visits his half brother.  Kitano helps his brother in a drug war against the Italian mob in Los Angeles.

Kitano can be considered a Japanese Gangster version of Clint Eastwood.  He is always calm cool and collected.  When he moves against is enemies, he remains expressionless.  In the scene above you can see how Kitano deals with Italian mobsters when during negotiations, Kitano picks up a couple of the English words he does understand.

Omar Epps has a fantastic role in the film as well.  The final confrontation scene between Kitano and the Italian mob is not to be missed.

We give Brother 4.5 stars out of 5
